Global Footprints
Three middle-class families, worlds apart, have very different carbon footprints. A Botswanan family produces few greenhouse gases but may already be feeling the effects of climate change. In the United States, a family tries to reduce energy use but still emits large amounts of carbon dioxide. An Indian family strives for a higher living standard in a nation where surging energy use may nearly double carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
